French manicure
This traditional manicure technique is used to enhance the contrast between the main part of the nail and the tips.
1. Shape nail and deal with cuticles as with the traditional manicure. Then apply base coat.
2. Now pain the whole nail with a neutral, pale shade which should match the natural color of the nail bed. Leave this to dry.
3. Paint the naturally white tip of the nail with an opaque white or beige polish. In traditional French manicures this white strip is straight across the tip of the nail; however, curving it to follow a natural oval will make the nails look longer.
4. Finish off with the coat of clear varnish. This will protect the layers underneath, helping the manicure to last longer.

Basic manicure
Basic manicure
This is the absolute bread and butter of your nail care regime. A regular manicure will give you strong, smooth and beautiful nails.
1. Remove old polish with a non-acetone polish remover.
2. File your nails into shape. The most protective and elongating shape is the squoval, where the sides are straight but the top is curved. To prevent damaging the nail layers you should file in only one direction, preferably from the outside into the middle.
3. Soak your nail in the little worm water to soften the remaining cuticles and then gently push them back with the orange stick. The first time you do this you may have the lot of cuticle; in this case, apply a cuticle remover to each nail. Leave to work for two to three minutes, and then wipe off. This will remove any excess without harming the nail bed. Wash your hands again and dry well.
4. Apply hand cream to hand and nails and wait two to three minutes. Now wipe each nail with a tissue to remove the excess.
5. Apply the base coat and leave to dry. Then apply polish. The best way to do this is with two or three thin coats. Tart at the base of the nail and sweep up an easy movement. Cover the middle of the nail first, then the edges. Any spill over the side can be wiped off with any orange stick dipped in a little nail remover.
6. Wait for the color dry, and then cover the nail with the top coat. To help your color last longer, apply this under the nail tip and along the nail tip as well. Leave for at least half an hour before touching and remember, polish take four to five hours to dry completely.

Manicure
A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands performed either at home or in a nail salon. A manicure treatment is not only a treatment for the natural nails but also for the hands. A manicure consists of filing, shaping of the free edge, cuticle treatments, massage of the hand and the application of polish. There are also manicure services that are specialties for the hands and feet. For the hands, the soaking of a softening substance and the application of a lotion is a common speciality.
Other nail treatments may include the application of artificial nail tips, acrylics or artificial nail gels. Some manicures can include the painting of pictures or designs on the nails or applying small decals or imitation jewels.
Manicures began 5000 years ago. In India, henna was used for manicure.Empress of China, was known to keep very long naturally-grown nails. French manicures are manicures designed to resemble a natural nail, and are characterized by natural pink base nails with white tips. The tips of the nail are painted white while the rest of the nail is polished in a pink or a suitable nude shade. Many choose it because it is very simple and give nails a natural, healthy look and can visually correct or perfect an otherwise imperfect nail.
Hot oil manicure
A hot oil manicure is a specific type of manicure that cleans the cuticles and softens them with oil. It works well for dry skin and nails that are brittle as it improves both by leaving them soft and pliable. Types of oils that can be used are mineral oil, olive oil or commercial preparation in an electric heater.

Color trick for nail
- Dark colors make nail look shorter. Beat this by leaving a white strip on the side of nail as you paint.
- Small nail look bigger if you use shimmery or metallic polishes.
- Pale colors are best for girls in a hurry.
- They show fewer mistakes and chips are more easily disguised. To make unpainted or natural look longer, run a white nail pencil under the tips.
- Bluey red nail polishes can make mature hands look older. Stick to vibrant reds or paler shades.
- If you want your nails to have a fashionable funky look after applying the nail polish just make some designs of your choice with some other color.
- If your nails are not big then you can use fake nails.
- Applying nail polish in itself is an art. Firstly apply thin coat of nail polish on your nails, let it set properly. Then apply the second coat.

Nail
Fingernails and toenails are made of a tough protein called keratin. Nails act as a counterforce when the end of the finger touches an object, thereby enhancing the sensitivity of the fingertip, even though there are no nerve endings in the nail itself. The growing part of the nail is the part still under the skin at the nail's proximal end. The average thickness of this portion of the nail is .016 inches, or 0.43 millimetres. In common usage, the word nail often refers to the nail plate only.
Types of Nail
1. Dry Nails
2. Brittle Nail
3. Damaged Nail
4. Soft Nail
5. Normal Nail
Dry Nails
Dry Nails lack luster and look dull, plus if you run thumb over the nail, it will drag slightly instead of sliding cleanly across. The secret of treating dry nails is to rehydrate them. Vitamin E is fantastic for them ( just like it is on dry skin) so open a vitamin capsule and rub it directly on the nails morning and evening. Clear off pearlized polish because ingredients used to make them sparkly can be dehydrating.
Brittle Nail
Gently press the sides of your nails together. If your nail does not bend, chances are you have brittle nails. They have no moisture left and have no flexibility. It’s better to boost flexibility by oiling the nail nightly with almond oil. The shape of your nail will also add strength. The best is a squoval shape(where the sides of the nail are left straight and only the top is rounded), as this shape helps the nail to absorb shock better.
Damaged Nail
If your nail’s are splitting, you have damaged nails caused by severe dehydration. Use cuticle oil twice a day .Use base coat to heal the nails, but make sure that as you apply it, you stipple it into any flaky spots.Soft NailsIf your nail bend at the slightest touch and rarely grow past your fingertip you have soft nail. You need to harden them up. The simple way is to apply nail hardener or rub with any oil .It will strengthen your nail. Always wear gloves when you are washing and apply hand cream after washing your hands.
Normal Nail
If you have none of the above problems- your nails bend slightly when pressed, look pink and shiny and grow easily- you are lucky, you naturally have normal nails. Moisturize them regularly with hands cream, and avoid harsh detergents and overly heat water.
